I don't see enough info in either article to make out how the thing works.
I know a little about induction and magnetic and electrical fields. I know you can make a light tube glow in an electrical field. There is no practical household application for such "transmission" of energy. I assume that Intel has SOMETHING. What IT is, is not in either of these pieces however.
I also don't have enough info to determine if the two articles are even about the same piece of research. And I certainly don't know if the hated, evil, stupid article presents exactly what Intel or whoever told the reporters. Jeez.
Short answer: I dunno.
