Biden is a likable liar. You know he doesn't believe a word he's saying, but he's polished by 35 years of schmoozing and I admire how he embraced Obama - whom it was obvious he thought was total scum - after selected as VP on Ted Kennedy's recommedation.
He's not embracing Obama too closely because you can tell he knows the tide will likely go against Obama on election day.
He's obnoxious, self-centered and has become almost a cartoonish figure. When he grilled Clarence Thomas and got the fresh hair plugs for the occasion - it was pathetic yet simultaneously charmingly self-focused. He was oblivious enough to his own transparency that it made him a harmless villain - a cardboard cut out twirling the waxed mustache but basically there for the free eats and his own enrichment - not the politics.
Biden will survive the failed Obama/Biden ticket and he will use it as another re-acquaintance with America he has done every 8 years for the past 35 years. Keeping in the spotlight keeps the special interest perks coming in bigger quantities and the lobbyists remain happy - they want someone in DC for the LONG haul.
Biden is their steady pocket vote.
