would sadden me - if I were the sort to be saddened.
Instead they just trigger the positive response I have developed over much time. A response which takes any negative and extracts the positive of the equation.
Life is polar. Good/Bad, Male/Female, Light/Dark all are polar biases.
Tragedy/Comedy is the polar extremes of your chosen interpretation.
Life is a tragedy if one LETS it be one. If you focus ONLY on the negative, your life will, indeed, be a tragedy.
There is no such thing as a one-sided event. There is no such thing as a just evil person, a totally terrible life or an only awful happening.
There will be good hidden in the evil. There will wonderful things concealed in both the life and the happening.
It's all perspective. Once one's perspective becomes more infinite one is elevated far past the dark, selfish focus of most depressed people.
Yes, depression and darkness are the byproducts of selfishness. It's almost impossible for someone who is not completely self-absorbed to become depressed - because they have the incomparable joy of sharing their lives, love and wisdom with others.
The nihilistic viewpoint that everything is nothing and man is nothing is the byproduct of a corrupt value system. Such an individual does not get their way or they are completely overpowered by their fears and insecurities.
Life is Wonderful, Awful, Spectacular and Devastating. It contains both tragedy and comedy.
The SECRET, Raoul, is learning how to extract the good from life by mastering the bad.
Scientifically, it is very sound. A wave propagates when it is on equilibrium. When it is imbalanced, the imbalance regenerates with each cycle as new energy is added unto it. Soon the wave form must dissipate because it crashes against the rest in such a manner that it cannot be effectively absorbed in its current imbalance state.
Like a waiter stacking too many dishes on the side of his tray, it will soon come crashing down. If that waiter balances his tray he can carry much more and for much longer periods of time. Life is exactly the same. Don't stack all your plates on one side of the tray, Raoul, and life will cease to be a tragedy.
