Obama won in no small part because he put together a team and a party that looks like all the diverse parts of modern, 21-century America, in all its ethnic and racial and social diversity, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, gay, straight; everyone.
I certainly hope that the Republican party can find a way to broaden its base and widen its tent beyond conservative white males, because it won't be healthy to have one party - the Democrats - dominating more and more in the ever more diverse America. Honestly in the name of diversity I applaud the Republican effort to put a woman on the ticket this year, but they would have been much better served to have named someone better qualified, perhaps Kay Bailey Hutchenson of Texas.
