Good analysis.

FDR saved capitalism in the Thirities Depression, by melding it with socialism. In Europe, fascism was the cure, and led to Franco, Mussolini, and Hitler. Most people today don't realize how close to fascism America (and England) came during the Depression, especially during those days when it seemed Hitler could do no wrong. The bourgeosie has always preferred order to freedom, political or economic. "As long as the trains run on time..."

If Communism is the dictatorship of the proletariat, then Fascism is the dictatorship of the middle class. When you've got nothing, you've got nothing to lose; but when steady jobs, pensions, savings and property are at risk, you want order. Or as one gentleman who had lived under both types of totalitarianism during his lifetime once explained to me, "They are both dictatorships, but at least under the fascists, if you don't cause them any trouble, they will leave you alone ."

Beware all fascists! You can't trust the middle class, and the minute you can't deliver what they want, they will turn on you in a heartbeat.
