"Freedom" seems to be an indefinite term.

It means different things in different cultures.

In the US we brag about our freedom, and yet any serious threat against the authority of the state is met with overwhelming force. Same as everywhere else. We're free to talk against the government, and print some things, as long as it's not regarded as effectual.

We regard ourselves as great protectors of private property, but try not paying property taxes, auto licenses, drivers license, income taxes and fees uncountable. Figure out a way to not pay taxes on fuel for driving, and not pay for parking.

Compare that to an Eastern nomad who pays no taxes, and yet has to follow the orders of the tribal leader.

"Freedom" seems to be one of those words which has different meanings for different people.
