Putting the seed corn in your SUV.

Every civilization throughout history has suffered some sort of decline, sometimes a total collapse, at other times they just morph into something different. Many have gone through the cycle many times. We will be no different.

The difference with ours is that as the world recovers from our collapse, this time there will not be any easily recoverable non-renewable resources to rebuild our former glory. We will have consumed them all.

The world or civilization, or even man, will not disappear. If we're lucky, we will stabilize at something like the 10th century. But you can kiss the colonization of the solar system and the exploration of the galaxy goodbye, along with lots of little things like Novocaine.

The future is really going to hate us.
