I say let gay people suffer like the rest of us.
It's refreshing to see Newsweek print what has to be a risky article. I would think they now could be attacked by fundamentalists, threatened with boycotts unless they donate to groups affiliated with the prospective boycotters.
Newsweek has Rabbi Marc Gellman who usually writes the "The Spiritual State" column and he's enough to sour one on Newsweek's approach to religion. He seems to have a lot in common with the Christian fundamentalists. In a recent article he proposed that oral sex was to be condemned because God did not make the human body for that purpose.
"I asked the girls I teach and love last Sunday, “When you offer oral sex to a boy who does not love you and may not even like you and who will most probably destroy your reputation by telling his friends what you will do, are you proud of yourself? Do you think you are making your parents proud of you? Do you think this is what God wants you to do with your body? You are better than that. You are much better than that.â€
How does that come under his purview? How does anyone who sets up children with arguments such as the above come to have influence? And that's just one example. He's fundamentalist on a number of topics.
I'm not sure much good can come from these folks. As religions go, certain Jewish sects are pretty darned good, and I admire some of them. But Newsweek found a doozy with this guy.

That issue is a pure puzzlement. Why should gays be so privileged?
