And, on the subject of unique ideas. I read once that the means, not the theory but the actual means of triggering an H-bomb was so clever that it could have been conceived by only two people on Earth. It was the supreme coincidence that one of them happened to be American and the other Russian.
As it turns out, citing an article I posted here a while back on nuclear development and proliferation, there probably was only one, the American. The Soviet spying was quite good and they probably picked it up from the American work.
