No lander is just plain stupid
Given the decades between Jupiter probes, to not include a lander of some type is complete idiocy. Even more stupid than not have instruments capable of detecting microbial life/fossils on the mars rovers.
A lander ala the Phoenix lander dropped in one of the deep cracks in the ice sheet could find evidence of life that seeped up when the cracks opened. The lander should be released AFTER the orbiter does a scan of potential sweet spots. Imagine if Huygens had been released after Cassini found Titan's methane lakes?
