Keep in mind
Bush screwed up badly by taking his eye off the ball (Al Qaeda in Afghanistan) and invading Iraq. Had America put all that political, economic and military capital into Afghanistan instead of Iraq the situation would most likely be much better than it is today. Probably not for certain but certainly probable.
Give the man a chance for crying out loud. He's been handed an absolute MESS. Were he to order a pullout less than a month into his presidency can you imagine the political backlash? Not to mention the signal it would send to Al Qaeda and other enemies. As it is there is no choice but a surge and hopefully we'll be out of there before his first term is up.
