Afghanistan cannot be "tamed"
No one in history has been able to do it, not even the Soviets with all
their soldiers and weaponry.
As Americans it is tough not to want to "help" others and bring them
our versions of democracy and freedom, which we think everybody
else wants and needs. The problem is most people have only the
vaguest clue about other cultures, even their neighbors. Not everyone
wants our kind of society, and I do not just mean the dictators.
Afghanistan clearly wants to go their own way, so I say let them and
only interfere if they start messing with those who don't want to be
messed with.
