Either we advance or we don't. At least we are now aware of the
problems created by our technological civilization and are taking steps
to solve them.
Consider this our species teenage years. Sure ya wanna smack that
age group for their adult yet simultaneously childish behaviors on a
regular basis, but you know if they stay on the right path and have
the proper guidance, they will grow up into stable adults.
Besides, without us, Gaia will have to spend another 65 million years
or more to get another species up to speed to stop asteroids from
hitting Earth and messing her up.
