Some organizations can get pretty sticky about their agenda (re: Jack Schmitt's resignation from the Planetary Society). I don't know if the Mars Society is like that.

Me, I've never seen a reason for an "either-or" thing on the Moon and Mars. The same basic tech and infrastructure is needed for both before we can do either one.
