A few members really tried to change things, but the one time they
visited a congressman to talk about supporting space he played them
like a piano and they came away with nothing. The rest apparently
just wanted to have a free lecture and snacks.
I tried multiple times to rally the troops; I even became chapter
President when the former leader quit and was ready to dissolve the
group. I kept the patient alive as best I could, but in the end I could
not get enough people to do anything meaningful and the chapter
eventually disbanded as far as I know.
Can't blame them in one way: There was little visible support from the
HQ and the members weren't employees so there was only so much
one could do.
Have never joined the Mars Society but wonder if they do much more
than talk and make the general public feel like they are a part of the
space program and can make a difference, reality notwithstanding.
