It's not about the money
It's what they do for the money. Unmanned satellites collect data, huge quantities of it. Astronauts don't.
And what it really boils down to is that I'll never be an astronaut, but I've already enjoyed years of satellite tv, accurate maps of the world, pictures and data of astronomical objects. Unmanned spacecraft bring their product right into my home. And their product expands my understanding of the world.
Astronauts don't do anything for me.
