Actually thats not too clear is it? I'll try to be more clear; I love manned space flight just for the wow factor, and for the human experiance of spaceflight, but the ISS isn't an example of how to do it well. It's been done badly, and has cost too much, although I'd rather a badly done overspent space station than none. The science could still be a nice sideshow, but thats not the justification for me. For me the main reason to send people is so they can have the experiance and bring it back, and eventually experiance other worlds to. What poetry and art might be inspired by a week in space looking down on earth, or on the moon? What new sports might arise? And no simulation I've ever found is comparable to actually being in a place and doing real things.
If orbital (and I hope one day lunar) space tourism happens in a big way, with it's own infrastructure, I'll be happy to see pure science missions done by remote.
