The US has had 7 years of war in Afghanistan, 7 years without a military budget being voted down, 7 years of unchallenged air power and has been fought to a draw.
Obama has been sucked into that maw, that quagmire, that mill which chews up modern military power and returns armor to rust. With a strategy which cannot win. Afghans are breeding faster than Americans are willing to die. The US, having forsaken any hearts and minds strategy, is on the wrong end of that curve.
"Reviews" are nonsense. On the same order of "investigations", they kick out pre-ordained PR proclamations with the solemnity and basis of a Bernanke announcement on the economy.
It's truly a grim situation. Unless the US can completely oppress the populations of both Pakistan and Afghanistan, can completely dominate them at all times, it's over.
There are real limits to military power. It does not dominate the human will, the desire to survive as a people, a culture. Unless, as with the Native Americans, you can kill 'most all of them.
"If it doesn't work, try it harder" isn't a formula for success.
