This isn't a "new policy," really. There's not much here that isn't already ongoing. Obama is continuing the Bush administration policies that were initiated last year, including the Predator attacks on "safe havens" and the redeployment of troops from Iraq to Afghanistan. The number of troops in Afghanistan has been steadily increasing. There are about 30,000 American troops there now, compared to about 19,000 a year ago, and 15,000 two years ago.
I'm just pleased that the effort IS going to be ongoing.
