Turning the lights off for an hour is the same kind of "feelgood" crap as skipping a meal to "remember" the world's starving. Like Marie Antoinette playing farm girl.
The modern environmental movement, and more specifically, the "humanity is a pollutant" movement, is based almost exclusively in comfortably advanced Western nations. It's like the thirty-year-old man who bemoans materialism and the oppressiveness of wealth while living in his parents' basement.
Or, for that matter, the person who medidates for an hour before turning the TV back on. Actually spending a few years in a monastery would generate a much more effective elevation of his consciousness.
