Off Topic » in reply to Not finding firearms "romantic" is like finding women unattractive.

For some.

The folks who find firearms romantic don't have to use them for a living and don't regularly see the business end of their accomplishments. Hunters, sportsmen, marksmen etcetera, all enjoy a different relationship with their firearms and this permits them to be romanticized.

For the rest, it real quickly 'kills' the romantic honeymoon.

It's understandable - folks can turn anything into a hobby and romanticize it.

Collectors are often caught romanticizing all sorts of unromantic things. A gourmet can romanticize a blender and special types of cookware. A stamp collector can spend hours peering over albums full of stamps. Doll collectors have shelves full of dolls, never touched by a child's small hand. Some folks collect old tube radios and never actually listen to them. They just like to polish the cabinets up, fix them up and then get another and repeat the process. People can turn any object into a toy - something that gives them pleasure.

The notion of having a dangerous object in one's hand - that shoots out objects that kill - is a powerful subconscious phallic symbol for some - a reverse phallus that brings death in lieu of life. Once you have a hot woman tell you exactly what it is you are really holding in your hands, you can never quite see it romantically again.
