This whole mess started with $4.00/gal gas and $5.00/gal diesel.

It was the high fuel prices of the past couple of years that set this avalanche in motion. High fuel raises prices on produsts, people cut back, demand drops, and a housing market built on a boom time bubble collapses.

This is what happens when we don't drill to secure a plentiful supply of fuel. The entire ecomony rises and falls on fuel prices.
