Look, I know what the status quo is, what it delivers, what the problems are. I know what it takes to get the drugs my family needs, and how to pay for it. The innovations and issues are a matter of record. There are many systems in place to help the poor and others get drugs, financed by both private and government sources. I know how the pharmaceutical systems in other countries depend on what we have in this country. Even the companies located in Europe and elsewhere rely on the American profit center to survive.
A kid can live over his parent's garage, but not if the parents decide to live there too.
I am asked to dump this in place of nebulous ideas from a political class that, frankly, does not have the world's best record in translating its fantasies of "everything for free and only people you don't like will have to pay for it" into real-world solutions, and frankly, have wrecked every economy where they have gained sufficient power.
If you're standing near a cliff in the fog, standing still is not the stupidest idea in the world. The Democrats are promising to eliminate a system that 80 percent of Americans are satisfied with and replace it with...what? Details are difficult to come by. Kind of like the energy program.
