Actually, Clinton didn't make a serious effort to settle the Arab-Israeli conflict until his last year in office. He then made a very serious effort but was torpedoed by Arafat. Had Clinton started early in his first term who knows what might have happened? Bush also waited to the very end to give an extremely half-assed effort which led to nothing.
Obama by contrast is actively seeking to resolve this conflict early in his first term to clear the way for better relations with the Arab world. Just one more example of a president who is not here to coast, but to make a difference by taking on big challenges.
