unless they find whatever preventative measures are taken against the virus are in any way inconvenient or expensive, or otherwise a hindrance to their own activities. Conservatives are no different in this respect from anyone else, even liberals. If their own wealth or power is threatened by the required counter to some external threat, they tend to minimize the risk from that threat and the need to counter it.

Conversely, they tend to be determined to enlist everyone to mount action against any activity that they perceive as a threat to their wealth and power. This is just human behavior, not conservative psychology. The only reason they tend to draw attention to themselves in this respect is that conservatives are (by definition) those who control wealth and power, which in our society happens to be commercial activity. So they, and those who fancy themselves as natural members or beneficiaries of this class, will soon emerge as the natural opponents or promoters of certain types of collective action.
