Words have meaning.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
The guys who wrote this were smart. They knew how to write. They knew to put the important part first in a sentence. As you so well point out, the SCOTUS inverted it.
