I'm not familiar with Collada either. But I'll remember your link is here.
I know SketchUp is pushing the compatabilty with Google Earth, and that is their driving motive. Modelers really are stepping up do create 3D buildings for G. Earth, and some of them are really good. The historic tour of Rome is wonderful.
Now, if they could just figure out how to include my mine models in G. Earth! They'd have to be able to turn the surface photos transparent, which would be really neat. People would be surprised at how extensive the big mines can get.
