We all know about your wife, TB, and we wish her the best, but it is precisely concerns like this that motivate the other side of this debate, not just a desire to destroy the republic and pervert our freedoms as you seem to imply. I also have a long term medical condition, which requires ridiculously expensive maintenance drugs (available at reasonable prices overseas, by the way). My job-connected health insurance has just drastically cut my benefits and raised my premiums, and with a "pre-existing condition", I am for all practical purposes, uninsurable, even though I am by no means destitute financially. Regardless of what goes on in the Senate, this is a matter of life and death for my family.
In my case, I could probably fall back on Plan B, government health care through the Veterans' Administration, but my wife cannot if she gets sick. And at her age, she will have to rely on government subsidized medicine because the private sector simply does not find it profitable to insure her. If I lose my insurance, or if I retire, or die, she is at risk. I'm not in this because I want to threaten you, or because I will profit from it somehow. I'm it it because I have no choice. And there are millions of others in my boat, too. And believe it or not, I worry about them, too. This is not a zero-sum game.
Socialized medicine in America may not solve all my problems, but without it, I have a feeling they are just starting.
