old white guys in suits

and don't you think that private, commercial entities have a motive to push the scientific consensus and public opinion in directions favorable for their agenda? tb, not only do they have the motive, they have the means and the opportunity to do so, and a long and sordid history of having done it repeatedly in the past, with pesticides, with tobacco, with a long catalog of safety and health issues both on the job and in the marketplace. not only that, they have every incentive to not compete, but to collude to get their way, as well as the political and business connections and public communications resources in place to do it. there is a reason why folks have such an instinctive distrust of these people, it's not because we've been indoctrinated by marxist teachers, celebrities and journalists.

you seem to have some sort of personal infatuation with the entrepreneurial ethos, as if membership in that class somehow innoculated its members from greed and ruthlessness. every time you talk about your boardroom heroes you seem to get this fuzzy warm glow in your eyes (i speak metaphorically, of course). in spite of my inherent distrust of these people, at least i've never felt the need to go as far as to accuse them of wanting to take over the world, or to deliberately initiate a world-wide economic collapse just to give them a foot in the door to total power. i think most of them just want to be allowed to swindle their customers and employees in peace without government regulation or taxation.

i certainly am ready to concede government bureaucrats can't see much further than their safe, cushy jobs and generous pensions. but Power with a capital P? c'mon, tb. this is not a graphic novel with costumed mutant super heroes and villains battling on an intergalactic stage. it's just old white guys in suits trying to make a dishonest buck, in government and business. don't you realize how absurd (and conspiratorial!) your rhetoric comes across, even to people who might otherwise be inclined to at least partial agreement with what you're saying?
