Did any of these shocked idiots you're reading pay ANY attention to what Obama was saying during the campaign?

Anybody who believed he would be hauling us completely out of the wars were paying way too much attention to the fantasy candidate in their own minds and no attention at all to his campaign rhetoric.

Or maybe they were happily convinced that, as is routine for the Left, Obama was lying like a rug during the campaign to place himself closer to the center, and would be revealed as the real anti-military leftist when he won.

I think over the past year, Obama has had some severe reality checks. You could even almost tell the difference after he won the election and started getting the briefings.

Bush maybe saying something along the lines of "welcome to the real world."

I'm not displeased with Obama all that much right now. As a general rule of thumb, if the far left is spitting tacks, somebody must be doing something right.
