Well his science isn't very good.
Or else he'd know that our solar system is overflowing with resources waiting to be exploited. Enough to last Humanity for many millions of years. And since no super heavy element is stable enough to be of any real use, I'm assuming that unobtainium is a mineral or alloy. That means it could be manufactured with 22nd century technology...you know, the stuff those mean, evil White people design and use.
BTW, if they can produce human/alien hybrid clones which can be operated via remote control, then a spinal cord injury would be child's play to fix. Although having the guy be disabled is a nice pc touch I'm sure they didn't want to do without.
