Reversal of the earth's magnetic poles IS a pole shift, the popular word for it. It is not a "popular anomalists'" word for it any more than any other modern day language that gives a dramatic name to a long scientific principle.
Besides, no "scientist" was around during the "pole shift" or the "reversal`` of the earth's magnetic poles, therefore no one can claim the name of either.🙂
