Meanwhile, back in California

Idiots in Sacramento are pushing state single-payer health care, outlawing private insurance, with the enthusiastic support of medical care unions that would get enormous power from this.

Get this: (boldface mine)

The bill does not spell out how California would pay for a program that would cost more than twice the state's $85 billion general fund. That would be left up to an appointed panel and ultimately, voters.

"What my Republican colleagues don't want you to know is that there is absolutely no cost to the general fund from this bill," Leno said. "The bill states very clearly that there will be no implementation until there is a determination of sufficient independent funding."

Well, um...yeah, okay. The bill won't bust the budget because it uses magic.

This has no chance of passing, but the point is there are leftists in state office insane enough to propose things like this with a straight face. This looks like it's heading for an actual vote. If you're in California, take notes of who votes which way.
