The Democrats are hoping to God nobody with a brain actually looks at the numbers:
Note that no real spending actually occurs until 2014. Think that helps the 10-year number at all?
It is useful to lay this out this as a graph with billions on the vertical scale and time on the horizontal. A trillion dollars over ten years is an average annual cost of $100 billion. Note that the cost curve rockets past that point in 2014.
At the end of the curve, in 2019, the annual cost is at $216 billion. Even granting the incredibly unlikely event that the costs of this program level out and never go up for the ten years following this period, we are talking about $2.16 trillion for the next ten years after this.
In the real world, of course, that curve will continue to rise until the system collapses. Costs and results are going to be much worse than predictions, as it has for almost every large government program in American history.
