so what else is new? for people who are out of work, in debt, on fixed incomes, pensioners, students, living off their savings, or on subsistence salaries--that is, on a cash basis, deflation (the common condition of a bad recession) can keep them above water.

for those whose wealth is in capital, property, stock or based on credit, inflation is the path to riches, because tangible assets have an intrinsic value and money borrowed today to acquire those assets will have to be repayed in the future in cheaper dollars.

maybe this was the financial sector's plan all along, and the democrats fell right into their trap? all i know is that the djia is closing in on 11,000, business is in recovery, but working people are still getting screwed. and now they've figured out a way to screw those who disciplined themselves and lived responsibly through the "bush prosperity".
