The jury is still out on Bush, the problems he inherited have not gone away, but the world hasn't come to an end, either. Depending on how people feel about him, opinions vary from "he hasn't made anything better" to "things certainly aren't getting any worse". Both assessments are correct.
Bush-bashing is to be expected from the left. That's their job; just like Reagan-bashing was before. Have you ever seen them spare a kind word for any conservative, no matter how successful, or fail to make elaborate excuses for the dill-stomps of any liberal?
If you listen to their rhetoric right here on the Zone, where they are coming from is pretty self-evident. If they were really smart, they'd just step back, be magnanimous, and wait for the collapse they expect is inevitable. Then they could come back and correctly (and very effectively) say "I told you so".
Liberals are not as upset as they claim that Bush is failing, in fact, they are hoping he will, they are counting on it, no matter what it costs the country. You see, what really scares them is that he might succeed, perhaps become the new Churchill. And what really terrifies them is that he might turn out to be the conservative FDR.
