Chefs generally drizzle a little EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) on meats and veggies, anything they're going to season and grill, whether indoors or outdoors, because it makes the seasonings stick. It's cool you discovered that for yourself.
I've picked up a lot of tips from watching Food Network and some of them are so common sensible that I wonder why I'd never thought of it myself. I used to hate to chop anything. Now I've learned the easy way to chop onions, apples and other veggies and fruits.
Here's a neat way to slice a batch of strawberries. Put several strawberries on an upside down side plate (curved a bit) and then place another plate upside down on top of them. Press down gently with your left hand and with a sharp knife slice through them between the two plates. Works for grapes, too.
