The email just arrived today, so it's early yet ;-)

That the discussion is relatively calm so far is in contrast to the tone of the email, which you called "inciteful". "Provocative" is another word that comes to mind, as does "demagoguery most foul", complete with easily identifiable scapegoat. Interesting that it's not taking hold with the rank and file, so far.

It's the scapegoat angle that motivated me to post here in Flame. Two of the three items on the list of suggested provocations involve Mexicans and people doing "racist" things, meaning that they're not white (I can't imagine that they'd spotlight white folks doing racist things, do you?).

The visceral emotional message in that email is "look at the horrors committed by those brown people!"

Of the estimated 12 million illegals, 8 million are thought to be from south of the border, I believe something like 6M being Mexican. Subtract another 600,000 South Asians, and another million or so Asian illegals, and you've got a couple of million probably white illegals.

Bet whoever wrote that wasn't picturing illegal Irishmen "raising the Mexican flag above ours". And probably not turbaned Sikhs, either.

I appreciate your even-handedness while I vent, Rob. I don't hold you responsible for them and you're not obliged to defend them. What we may be seeing is an attempt to lead that group into action using some pretty foul demagoguery, and the interesting thing from here is to see how they handle it.
