I thought it was clear in these statements that Transposition was transferring the mind's essence into some kind of a humanoid robot: ...reporting for the scheduled Transposition. Her thoughts, her essence would now drive a body, though while not immortal, would be much longer-lived than her real human one. She would cease to age. She would eat, drink, sing, and breathe, everything that a normal human would do. But she would no longer be human. If that doesn't explain it, I guess I haven't done my job.
Attendance at the Wake was mandatory, attendance records kept. They skipped it to make love the night before her scheduled transposition. He was punished by a slow death for non-attendance. He thought she had gotten away OK but at the end he realizes she's in the same boat as he is.
Thanks, Rob.
