Yeah, if you want to take power from the people, go ahead and repeal it. And the reason the states need the current federal government is that they'll never agree on anything otherwise. Hell, just look at the first thirteen colonies. It's a wonder they managed to stick together long enough to make the Constitution. Also, with the modern age of technology, it might be possible for the senators and representatives to not be there at all. They could e-conference the whole thing (A lot of corporations do that and it works just fine for them).
