I lived under state-run healthcare for decades. The reason Death Panels have become a joke is because they are, and people without an ideological dog in the fight can see that.
This doesn't mean socialized healthcare will necessarily work in the US, but by promoting myths with the intention of deliberately destroying it's chances of success, the right is doing a dis-service to the people of this country.
