First, it's the government cutting off a politically-incorrect food from those who rely on government for food.
Later it will be a "starch tax." If you think that's ludicrous, look up "sugar tax."
Finally, prohibition. If you think that's ludicrous, look up "transfats."
If this were only about potatoes, it wouldn't be important. It's one of many symptoms.
