Look up "sugar tax" and "transfats." We are up to our asses in insanities that Americans would have thought inconceivable a generation ago.
Every one of these proposals is a little ratchet. One more step where someone says "how far can we go before we get our hand bit off?" If there's no response, the ratchet is moved another step forward.
This isn't paranoia. It's experience.
What's frightening is the number of people out there who essentially say "bring on the totalitarianism. The sooner the government is running everything the better off we'll be."
