Re: Not important to win

What's important is the fight. To show the public what they had rolled over them last time in the dark of the night. A lot of congressmen and senators are going to have to vote for or against it again, all the while staring at the many political corpses of those who voted for it last time.

The Democrats didn't invent the "Slaughter Solution" to pass Obamacare because they thought they had overwhelming political support, and that was back before just the front edge of the Obamacare storm started raising costs and screwing up the system. My wife is probably going to be getting an unpleasant surprise for this year's benefits signups.

Same goes for tax cuts. Democrats dived out the window rather than have to take a position on it before the election. Good luck on that in the lame duck session.

The Republicans, meanwhile, will have an actual voice instead of being shut out of the debate.

After 1994, it took the public 12 years to decide they'd had enough of Republicans in charge. This time around with the Democrats, it took 2, and they blew them out of the water.

I have my fingers crossed that the Republicans will have the principles and the spine to do what comes next. Some of the new ones will. I'm not that happy with a few of the old ones.
