Technically, you do have a choice
It's called Democracy where we elect officials. Majority rules. If the majority passes rules the minority doesn't like, they can try to change the lawmakers or the laws in various ways. Instead, people like Tom just vilify half of the electorate because he happened to be in the minority when the laws were passed. To which I say, "Too fucking bad." Which is basically what he said when we went to war against the wishes of a lot of the electorate.
