Re: my lawn

There's already something wrong with anyone who has an "award winning lawn." My lawn is small, but my theory is that if it's green and can be mowed, it counts as "lawn." A number of varieties of grass have staked out ecological niches around the house. I do spray sometimes for broadleaf because it's easy.

The rest of my landscaping is largely Darwinian: If it looks nice and can get a foothold, it can stay. As long as it doesn't get out of hand. I have to be a bit aggressive with the ivy and wisteria sometimes. My neighbor has a huge locust tree that is straight from hell, dropping flowers, leaves, seed pods, and little wiry sticks into my gutters and yard, but it was a present to them from a beloved relative, so what are you gonna do? I do trim it for them once in a while since I can scramble on roofs and they can't.
