^Let's see, the GOP promised that new bills would not be brought to a vote without committee action, without allowing minority amendments, or if it would increase the deficit. Great news! Except they violated all of those promises ON THEIR VERY FIRST BILL: a symbolic attempt to repeal healthcare reform.^
First, they didn't vote on a bill today. They voted on a consideration to proceed.
The $230 billion added to the deficit is bullshit. It's based on DECREASING spending by $540 billion and DECREASING taxes by $770 billion. There is a weird, five-dimensional math that tells you that this would be a $230 "deficit increase," but I have a hard time believing that government spending half a trillion less and $770 billion dollars kept in the private sector instead of being wasted by the government is going to be a net drain on economic growth. Which, by the way, is the only way the deficit will really be handled.
As for the $100 billion pledge, if the Republicans reduce the deficit by fifty bucks they will already be doing better than the Democratic Congress has done in four years.
If Cantor says military cuts are on the table now instead of off, what's wrong with that? I think the military should be on that table with everything else.
I hadn't even heard about that last bit with the swearing in, but I suppose it's considered a critical issue on the leftist websites.
You do realize the Left is mostly talking to themselves nowadays, right? Shrieking and firing in all directions. The fundamentals are still the same: The socialists are out of the House, and were thrown out by a large percentage of the American people for BEING socialists. The more important news is that the Republicans are being held to the same standard. It's not about Republicans and Democrats any more. It's about leftism and conservatism. Tyranny vs. liberty. That's the news, and that's what's really got "progressives" going crazy.
