The only reason there's a "backing off" right now is because the Democrats, who started the "hateful rhetoric" and ran with it, got their noses firmly pushed in. There are still a few idiots running with it, but the smarter ones quit while they were behind.
The call for harmony, bipartisanship, the "middle ground" and cooperation comes out of Democrats ONLY when they suddenly find themselves out of power. Good grief, do you think this is the first election I've been through?
2008 wasn't that long ago. Do try and remember what the Democrats were saying and doing about "bipartisanship" back then. Including a black president telling the Republicans to "sit in back" of the vehicle.
There are issues that need to be dealt with that will affect our lives a lot more than the shooting in Tucson. We don't need "middle ground" between good ideas and stupid ones.
Just as an aside, it's sickening that for lunatic violence to really get nationwide political attention requires the lunatic taking a shot at a politician. If you really want incitement to violence for lunatics, how about that?
