Re: Wondering if it's not both.

I stand corrected.
Looking back at happenings in my own life and the life of some other people, I must concur.
While looking at the family bible to see when it was translated, I came across a letter from a friend of my parents. Both my parents and their friend have gone to the great beyond long time ago.
The letter was written during the war in 1941, and addressed to my father “there somewhere.”
Although I was very young at the time that the author of the letter visited us, I remember at least parts of his visits. He had a “presence” that could not be ignored.

I also found a newspaper clip about this man, stuck between the pages of the bible.
This man, Mikko Reponen, gave up his fish market business and all his possessions to the needy, after his wife, who was six months pregnant, died.
It seems that during his many trips and prayers at his wife’s grave site, he received a profound spiritual/religious conviction, and began to travel from place to place all over Finland to spread the gospel.

He survived both physically and spiritually during his travels, though he did not know where the next (physical) meal would come from.

So, wonder no more, the “bread” must mean both physical and spiritual.

Thank you for pointing that out.

PS. Mikko Reponen was known as a prophet in Finland, because he predicted the destruction of a church and the city of Viipuri, two years before the war that destroyed the said church and devastated the city.
