Somewhere along the line, Americans have gotten the idea that our country has some blessing that makes us immune to the forces of tyranny that have infected so many countries throughout history.
They believe America, of all nations and cultures, will never raise up anyone who thinks the world would be a better place if they had absolute power. Their ideal world is one where they have infinite power and privilege, and the rest...well, at some point where they finally get beyond the reach of real elections, who really cares?
Nancy Pelosi is a totalitarian, and far from the only one in Washington and elsewhere. By the actual definition of the word, which means someone who thinks a centralized authority (them) should be running every aspect of our lives at every level. Too many perceptual thinkers believe totalitarians always wear jack boots and have secret police, and would never ever be seen wearing power ties and wielding lawyers and legislators.
